The trees, which stretched up far from the sandy shoreline, covered almost all of the small island. We sat there quietly, taking in the natural beauty that surrounded us. Finally, we had made it to paradise, our home for the next two months. At that moment, as a faint rainbow painted the sky with colour, I felt a sense of anticipation about our time on the island. ‘How will you cope without your phone?’, ‘What will you do for food?’, ‘Won’t you be scared?’ my family had asked. I didn’t have answers to their questions but as the sun began to break through the clouds, I knew that the months ahead would be full of challenges and excitement…

Spring 1

Writing Stimulus

Write a list of words to describe what you can see in the image. If you were standing there, what would you smell? What would you hear? How would you feel? 

Now, write three sentences to describe the image, using the Alan Peat double ly ending sentence.

Writing ideas:

• A story about the lion cubs and an adventure in the wilderness
• You are on a safari tour! Write a diary entry for one day of your trip.
• Write a poem using the descriptive language you wrote to describe the image.

They had lived there for as long as he could remember. Generations and generations passed, but very little changed. They kept themselves to themselves, hidden away from the world.
